In our analyses here, the survey responses are weighted to reflect the demographic makeup of the Chicago region. 1 The survey oversampled areas undergoing demographic change, such as gentrifying city neighborhoods and suburbs with growing Black populations. In late 2018, we surveyed 2,401 residents of Chicago and its suburbs in the Chicago Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Study. Underscoring the voices of activists and protestors, we find that Black residents disproportionately experience negative encounters with police, sharply disapprove of their performance, and express more concern about crime. In light of ongoing public discussion on these proposals, this blog post shares findings from recent surveys that highlight stark differences in experiences and views of policing across racial groups in Chicagoland. Gildardo Rodriguez, 38, of the 700 block of East Avenue, La Grange, was arrested on charges of driving on a suspended/revoked license, driving without insurance/operator under suspension and use of canceled/revoked registration plates/sticker at 12:53 p.m.July 12 at North Route 59 and West Diehl Road. Juan Carlos Garcia, 28, of the 1700 block of Felten Road, Aurora, was arrested on a warrant at 11 p.m.July 12 at North Aurora Road and Genesee Drive. Sipp, 20, of the 1600 block of Northeast Drive, Aurora, was arrested on a warrant at 2:52 p.m. July 12 in the 1100 block of East Ogden Avenue. Rinaldi, 20, of the 900 block of Shandrew Drive, Naperville, was arrested on charges of illegal lane usage, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of a false ID card at 4:06 a.m. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt: The following items were taken from Naperville police reports and press releases.
